Pietro Berrettini, known as Pietro da Cortona, painter, sculptor and architect, is one of the great artists of the high Baroque style. Less know are his anatomical drawings made already in 1618 afterwards engraved on copperplates by Luca Ciamberlano. Pietro’s atlas was never published during his lifetime. These forgotten copperplates were discovered over one hundred years later and published in 1741 with a new edition in 1788. This particular copy is printed in sepia on bluish paper of the best quality. Pietro’s artistically important anatomical atlas is no doubt one of the most dramatic.
