  • Bildliche Darstellung der Krankheiten des menschlichen Auges -
  • Author: RUETE, Christian Georg Theodor (1810-1867)
  • In 1851 Hermann voin Helmholtz described his invention of the ophthalmoscope, by which instrument it was possible for the first time to examine the interior of the living eye. Soon after Theodor Ruete, professor of ophthalmology, described the improvements of this new instrument in order to make it practically applicable for the physicians. The details and intensity of colours in the hand-coloured engraved plates are superior to anything that chromolithography was capable of at this period. The coloured figures provide ophthalmoscopic views of the fundus, and illustrate the external diseases of the eye.
