Palmstruch was a skilled draughtsman, who in collaboration with the engraver Carl Venus started to illustrate Swedish plants, which became the first illustrated Swedish flora. It was issued in parts with six plates in each. Palmstruch drew 432 plates in 72 parts in six volumes before his death in 1811. The work was continued by others and run to eleven volumes up to 1843 with together 774 hand-coloured engraved plates.
