Seven parts with 50 photographs in each, making a total of 350 mounted photographs depicting injured soldiers in the American Civil War. They were taken to record unusual and difficult operations and amputations and are generally taken in the same studio. On verso of each plate is a label giving description of the case, the patient’s name, age, rank, regiment, civil status, when and where he was injured, kind of injury and by what weapon – followed by name of the surgeon, the result, ending with the patient’s present state of health.
