Foetus flower

  • Opera quae extant, omnia -
  • Author: SPIEGEL, Adriaan van de (1578-1625)
  • This anatomical atlas is the most important of the post-Vesalian period and among the finest produced in the seventeenth century. The first 77 plates, attributed to Joseph Maurer, were originally prepared to illustrate Casserio’s great Theatrum Antatomicum that was still unfinished at his death in 1616. Included in Spiegel’s Opera is his De Formato Foetu, illustrated with plates of the pregnant woman and the foetus. The most famous of these is the woman with the ”Foetus-flower”.
